Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp. dried basil or oregano
  • 4 cups canned tomatoes in juice, crushed (we prefer plum tomatoes)
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. hot red pepper, ground or in flakes

Make it:

  1. Heat the oil in a medium saucepan on medium-low heat (#3), add the garlic and dried basil. Stir 1 minute just to soften the garlic.
  2. Add all the other ingredients and warm the sauce over medium heat, for about 5 minutes. It doesn’t need to boil, just have the ingredients get warm together.
  3. Sauce should be spread to 3/4-inch from the edge of the crust. It should lightly coat the dough so you can still see through it.
