Ingredients

  • 1 large (12 to 15 inch) baguette, cut into 1/2 inch thick slices
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings
    • Cheese and herbs (basil, thyme, etc.)
    • Pesto
    • Garlic and tomato rub, parmesan cheese
    • Sweet and hot pepper spread
    • Winter squash, roasted and smashed into a spread

Make it:

  1. Preheat oven to 400℉
  2. While the oven is preheating, cut the baguette into ½ inch thick slices. Brush each side of the slices with an even and light coating of olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Arrange slices in a single layer on a baking sheet with parchment paper. Bake the bread until dry and crisp. You will need to flip slices over halfway through baking, about five minutes per side.
  4. While baking, prepare your toppings of choice (see above)
  5. Once the bread slices are baked evenly, assemble your toppings on the bread
  6. Place topped crostini back into the oven, for about 5 minutes to heat and serve

Notes: This recipe is very flexible—feel free to come up with your own toppings depending on the season or what you have on hand!
