Ingredients
- 1 large (12 to 15 inch) baguette, cut into 1/2 inch thick slices
- 2 Tbsp. olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional toppings
- Cheese and herbs (basil, thyme, etc.)
- Pesto
- Garlic and tomato rub, parmesan cheese
- Sweet and hot pepper spread
- Winter squash, roasted and smashed into a spread
Make it:
- Preheat oven to 400℉
- While the oven is preheating, cut the baguette into ½ inch thick slices. Brush each side of the slices with an even and light coating of olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
- Arrange slices in a single layer on a baking sheet with parchment paper. Bake the bread until dry and crisp. You will need to flip slices over halfway through baking, about five minutes per side.
- While baking, prepare your toppings of choice (see above)
- Once the bread slices are baked evenly, assemble your toppings on the bread
- Place topped crostini back into the oven, for about 5 minutes to heat and serve
Notes: This recipe is very flexible—feel free to come up with your own toppings depending on the season or what you have on hand!
