Summer Camp

We're in the midst of our fourth week of summer camp. The theme of this week's camp is Earth, Body, Community. In the spirit of this theme we tried out a new arts and crafts activity - make-your-own lip balm and salve! Using oils created from lavender and calendula in the Green Plate Special garden, campers made their own medicinal body products.

That wasn't the only new art project we incorporated this year! During our second week of summer camp our newest program educator, Anya, developed and led a dinnerware decorating activity.

New Garden Coordinator!

Green Plate Special is so excited to welcome back Annie Reading as our garden coordinator. Annie is very familiar with GPS, having led the youth market stand program just last year. She's bringing fresh vision to our space and has already taken to her position like a duck to water!

If you'd like to read more about Annie, click HERE to view her staff bio.

Summer Market Stand open!

Every Thursday until August 29th, 11:30am to 4:30pm, our youth interns will be selling organic produce, herbs, and flowers at their market stand just past the entrance to the Green Plate Special garden.

Come buy a bit of our summer bounty and help give these interns experience with sales, marketing, and handling money! They take responsibility for every part of the stand's operation, from designing flyers and posters to harvesting the fresh goods for sale. By shopping at the market stand you are supporting their hard work and boundless creativity.

This year's interns are Maleah, Peyton, and Tati.

Garden Gala Tickets for Sale

Tickets are still available for Green Plate Special's big annual fundraiser, the Sixth Annual Garden Gala. Join us in the garden for this cocktail-style event to enjoy fresh foods from our garden and kitchen and meet Green Plate Special youth ambassadors.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 21st, beginning at 5pm.

We are still seeking volunteers to provide support on the days leading up to the gala and during the event itself. If you are interested in lending us a hand, you can view the available volunteer shifts and sign up for them HERE.
