Classes and Camps

Are you in 4th through 8th grade? Green Plate Special has after-school programs and summer camps for you! Join us for cooking classes and garden programs. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Our programs involve both cooking and gardening – you will plant and pick the things you cook!
  • Camps and classes take place on our property in Rainier Valley, on the corner of 25th Ave S and S Walker
  • You will need transportation to and from our garden in Rainier Valley. In some instances, transportation from school to the garden is provided.
  • Generous financial support is available. We have a “Pay What You Can” policy for all of our programs. For more information see the program description below or contact us via email ( or phone (206-602-6845).

Program Description
All Green Plate Special youth ages 9-14 are invited to join us in the GPS kitchen to make soup! The soup will be distributed to a local homeless shelter serving youth and young adults.

Space is limited, so sign up ASAP!

Family Evening Cooking Classes

Program Description

Knife Skills | Cooking Techniques | Hearty, Balanced Recipes

A series of 6 cooking classes that will explore hearty recipes, balanced meals, and easy-to-find and low-cost ingredients. Share a meal and take home leftovers!

  • Tuesday evenings
  • Youth 9-14 with or without a parent or guardian

Arrival: 5:30 - 6:00 pm

Each class we will explore the garden to connect the foods we grow to the foods we cook and eat.

Taught and supported by Green Plate Special staff and volunteers with backgrounds in education, food-growing and cooking.
