Classes and Camps

Are you in 4th through 8th grade? Green Plate Special has after-school programs and summer camps for you! Join us for cooking classes and garden programs. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Our programs involve both cooking and gardening – you will plant and pick the things you cook!
  • Camps and classes take place on our property in Rainier Valley, on the corner of 25th Ave S and S Walker
  • You will need transportation to and from our garden in Rainier Valley. In some instances, transportation from school to the garden is provided.
  • Generous financial support is available. See below for our “Pay What you Can” policy.
  • GPS welcomes all youth regardless of race, color, national origin, immigration status, religion, disability or gender identity.

Summer Market Stand Youth-Intern Application

Are you going into 7th, 8th or 9th grade? Have you participated in:

  • 2 or more Classes or Field Trips?
  • 1 or more Programs (during or after school)?
  • 1 or more Spring or Summer Camps?

YOU are eligible to apply to work with Green Plate Special this summer! Sell vegetables and fruits from our Produce Stand and from pre-ordered farm-boxes.

Spring Break Camp

Program type: 5 full days of camp

Program Description

Each day of camp we spend equal time in the garden and kitchen, connecting the foods we grow to the foods we cook and eat. In our organic garden we plant, tend and harvest together; bringing these vegetables and fruits into our comfortable teaching-kitchen to learn safe knife skills, new recipes and cooking techniques. Then we share the tasty and nutritious foods we cooked together at lunch, inspiring young people to try new foods and new ways of preparing them.

You'll make friends, learn cool skills and expand on those you already have. Our programs are FUN, empowering and full of surprises. All programs and camps are taught and supported by GPS staff and volunteers with backgrounds in education, food-growing and cooking.

Pay What You Can Tuition Assistance

Green Plate Special uses a "Pay What You Can tuition assistance system. If you are unable to pay the full cost of a program, please fill in the amount you are able to pay for your selected program. We ask that you consider your household income and the number children in your household when determining the amount you are able to pay for a class or camp. Information provided on this form will be kept in strict confidence.
