Alex was born and raised in Seattle. He received his bachelor's degree in Urban Justice Studies from Pitzer College, where he helped found student-led mentoring and leadership programs in Los Angeles area high schools. His professional background is in education, from supporting English Language Learners in after-school programs, to career coaching for BIPOC first-generation college students.

Alex feels lucky to have grown up in a family that treats food as an expression of love, a source of medicine, and a medium to strengthen community. His passion for food, traveling, and work in restaurants inspired him to launch a food business and community kitchen with his mom at the start of the pandemic. Siembra celebrates Peruvian food highlighting local organic ingredients.

Years ago, he remembers buying nasturtium flowers from the Green Plate Special produce stand and being inspired to grow his own. When Alex isn't cooking or gardening you can find him hunting for records or dreaming of his next international trip.
