A volunteer opportunity for Everyone in the community!

This is a semi-structured learning opportunity for youth, adults and alumni to volunteer in the garden under the guidance of GPS staff. You will help out with garden tasks, which include harvesting, weeding, planting, pruning, and processing produce. 

We provide all necessary tools. We ask that all folks on site wear a face mask, and we have plenty to go around for youth and adults. (Other safety measures include maintaining a social distance of 6 feet, and GPS staff sanitizing all touch surfaces twice daily.)

Virtual cooking lessons with oxbow farm

 

 

Green Plate Special teamed up with the Oxbow OxEd team and the University of Washington

This winter, we delivered a series of three virtual cooking lessons to fourth and fifth graders from Frank Waggoner Elementary who participated, hands-on, from home!

Each cooking class included ingredients for each youth-friendly recipe, an hour-long synchronous “cook-along” lesson facilitated by Oxbow and Green Plate Special educators, and bilingual videos and lesson materials. Lessons explored the relationship between food and energy, the year-round seasonality of kale, and the impact of food choices on health, the environment, and the economy.
