Youth Fall Garden Volunteers

A volunteer opportunity for Green Plate Special youth and alumni!

This is a semi-structured learning opportunity for youth and alumni to volunteer in the garden under the guidance of GPS staff. Youth will help out with fall tasks, which include harvesting, weeding, planting, pruning, and processing produce. Shifts are from 3pm to 5pm on Wednesdays, and each shift features a different set of tasks. DATES/TIMES

Wednesdays from 3pm to 5pm

  • 10/7 Harvesting basil and making pesto
  • 10/ 14 Harvesting grapes and making jelly
  • 10/ 21 Harvesting green tomatoes and making salsa
  • 10/28 Chopping up and composting summer plants
  • 11/4 Planting cover crops, spreading fresh compost and straw
  • 11/11 Planting garlic, spreading fresh compost and straw
  • 11/18 Soil testing with chemistry kits
  • 11/25 Raking leaves and making autumn bouquets
FOOD/BEVERAGES AND SUPPLIES

Snacks, water, and garden tools are provided. We ask that all folks on site wear a face mask, and we have plenty to go around for youth and adults. (Other safety measures include maintaining a social distance of 6 feet, and GPS staff sanitizing all touch surfaces twice daily.)
