FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Executive Director
Salary Range: $37,000 to $47,000

Mission and Programs

To empower and inspire youth to experience food in new ways through gardening, cooking and eating together. GPS works with youth ages 9-14 to foster interest and passion in food growing, cooking and healthy eating. The youth, families, and program partners we serve come from very diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Position Summary
The Development and Communications Coordinator works in close partnership with the Executive Director (ED) to develop donor-centered relationships with GPS supporters, volunteers, and potential partners. The position is responsible for coordinating annual giving programs, including direct mail campaigns, online appeals, and events. The Coordinator will also compile data for grants and grant reports, working closely with the contract grant writer and the ED.  

The position will also serve as the lead on external communications, with the responsibility to maintain the GPS website, social media platforms, and marketing/promotional materials.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of direct mail strategy, including list preparation, creation of compelling content, production, and fulfillment mailings.
  • Serve as the lead event planner for the Garden Gala, GPS’s signature fundraising event.
  • Help identify giving trends among constituents and position the organization to successfully secure such gifts on an annual basis.
  • Coordinate donor stewardship activities, including donor appreciation events, to ensure donors feel connected to and inspired by the mission.
  • Represent GPS at community events, provide tours of the garden/kitchen, and proactively solicit support among services clubs and organizations.
  • Manage donor data, gift processing, and conduct donor research/analysis.
  • Help produce development and marketing materials, including fact sheets, program descriptions, and flyers.
  • Maintain the GPS website and social media sites, using WordPress, Instagram, Facebook, etc.
  • Manage the organization’s photo library and collaborate with contracted designers on print materials.
  • Work closely with the Operations Coordinator to coordinate volunteer engagement among donors and service clubs as needed.
  • Support third-party fundraising events and external partnerships as needed.
  • As part of a small team, there will plenty of exciting “other duties” as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Philanthropy or related field.
  • Two to three years of experience building relationships in a nonprofit setting or sales environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, design software (Adobe Suite), and donor databases such as Salesforce.
  • Experience with web content management systems and basic HTML a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; willing to take initiative on new projects.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced nonprofit environment with a strong commitment to mission fulfillment.

Other Requirements

  • Must pass a Washington State and national criminal history check
  • Must obtain a Washington State Food Handler’s card within 30 days following employment
