Dumplings, Ladybugs, and Blue Pizza this Summer at GPS

5 Oct

We rounded out the summer with 7 weeks of fun-filled camps!  Youth participated in all parts GPS, from collecting chicken eggs (sometimes as many as 15 in one day!), to tending the garden, art projects, and sharing delicious lunches that we cooked together in teams. We couldn’t have done it without the incredible energy and talents of our interns Alec, Emily, and Alanna.

Some highlights from the kitchen included:

  • Dumpling day when youth prepared Argentine empanadas and Chinese boiled dumplings, as many as 400 total!
  • Tortilla day when youth hand-ground nixtamalized corn, made their own masa (tortilla dough), pressed and cooked tortillas, and topped them with veggies galore from the garden. It was all served with youth-made salsa, of course!
  • Our first ever blue pizza, made by our Senior Youth Intern, Téa.

Our Market Stand was a huge success this season as well. Thanks to our fabulous Market Stand Youth Interns, Sarah, Max, Sydney, and Sorchia, we were able to provide our local community with fresh fruits, veggies, and eggs every Thursday.
